Obituary

Mona Joy Iorg passed away peacefully at her son's home on August 16, 2025, at the age of 82.

Joy was born December 15, 1942, in Heber, Utah to Hyrtle Wayne McDonald and Lila Davies. She grew up on the family farm in Talmage, Utah. As the oldest daughter, her parents expected her to help keep the farm running. She would wake up before sunrise to milk the cows before school. From a very young age she learned the priceless value of a hard day's work and how to be reliable; two lessons that defined and shaped the entirety of her life.

She went to Altamont High School and graduated in 1959. While at school she met Elmer C. Iorg and fell in love. They were married in 1961 and celebrated the birth of their first son, Eddie, that same year. Their second son, Rossi, completed their family. They moved to Taylorsville for work and Joy spent the rest of her life living there. Joy and Elmer later divorced.

While Joy never went to college, she held several respectable jobs and worked for Fred Meyers in their accounting department for many years. She did whatever was needed to provide for her family and was proud of the work she did.

Joy loved to travel with her friends, spend time with her sisters, and be outside in her yard and rock garden. Joy's three main food groups were Pepsi, popcorn and coffee with lots of creamer and sugar. She was an excellent seamstress and made lots of Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Joy loved Christmas and decorated every surface of her house during the holiday season. She always had her family over for "Mexican Christmas Eve" and cooked amazing beef enchiladas. Joy experienced many challenges in life, including several cancer diagnosis, but she never let life harden her. She kept laughing, cussing, smiling and spreading love until the very end.

Joy was many things in her lifetime - a hardworking farm girl, a beloved daughter, a loving sister, and a loyal friend - but her greatest fulfillment came from being a mother and a grandma. She once said that the best thing about being a mother was, "just having my little boys around me." She spent countless hours supporting her sons in sports, particularly baseball and especially enjoyed being "Team Mom." She often took her grandchildren out to the McDonald family farm. She loved to be with "Daddy" and show her family where and how she grew up. Later in life she enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. She would sit in her rocker and watch them play, always giggling about how much energy they had.

Joy is survived by her sisters: Ann (Henry) and Jackie (Dewey); her half brother: Val Mcdonald; her sons: Eddie (Julee) and Rossi (Cindy); her grandchildren: Chase, Blakelee (Michael), and McCall; and her great grandchildren: Bronson, Ellie Joy, and Daxter. And many nieces and npehews who loved her dearly.
