Obituary

Betty Louise Horton-Reber, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, with her daughter-in-law by her side. Betty was born on January 16, 1934, in Mississippi, where she spent her early childhood before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, at the age of fourteen. She was preceded in death by her eight beloved siblings.

At seventeen, Betty married the love of her life, Homer Harold Horton. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and love. They welcomed one son, Homer Robert Horton, and later adopted their daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Linda Horton. After the birth of her son, Betty returned to work to help put Homer through school, a testament to her determination and devotion. Even after his graduation, she continued working in various vocations, primarily in insurance and retail. Betty and Homer shared many happy years together until his passing in 1995. In 2003, Betty found love again and married Earl Reber, with whom she shared twelve years until his passing in 2015.

Betty leaves behind her son Robert, her daughter Becky, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly knew her as Mamere.

Betty was a remarkable mother and grandmother, known for her incredible Southern cooking and unmistakable sense of style. Her grandchildren eagerly mowed her lawn for the reward of sitting down to a home-cooked meal with Mamere. She treasured holidays, especially Easter and Christmas. Easter mornings were filled with a traditional Southern breakfast, while Christmas was marked by beautiful decorations and cherished family traditions, including puppet skits created with her grandchildren and performed on Christmas Eve.

She valued honesty, integrity, and hard work, never allowing her family to settle for less than their potential. She celebrated every achievement, spoiled her grandchildren endlessly, and loved evenings filled with games, laughter, and friends. Later in life, she enjoyed fellowship with the Red Hat Ladies and lunches shared with dear friends.

A private graveside service for the family will be held on December 31, 2025. Betty's legacy of love, warmth, and family devotion will live on through generations.
